What You Need to Know

Understanding Auto and Home Insurance

Disaster Insurance, provided by Recoop, pays a lump-sum cash benefit of up to $25,000 within 24-48 hours following a declared natural disaster. There is no deductible required and no restrictions on how you use the cash.

Enrollment

You can enroll in Disaster Insurance at any time by calling Mercer Voluntary Benefits at 1-844-851-5427 or using their online platform Your Voluntary Benefits.

Using your benefit.

After you enroll and set up your account, you must upload “before” photos of your property and choose the account your payment should be deposited to in the event of a covered disaster.

To initiate a claim following a disaster, you can use the online claim form or call Recoop at 1-877-2RECOOP. You will be asked to upload “after” photos of the damage before your claim can be approved. Following approval, your cash benefit will be deposited to your account within 24-48 hours.

Paying for coverage

Your rate takes several factors into consideration, including your location, the level of risk in your region, and the coverage amount you choose. Rates are subject to change from time to time. Coverage can be paid by convenient paycheck deductions.

Covered services

To receive a Disaster Insurance benefit from Recoop, you must meet three requirements:

  1. You must carry an existing homeowners or renters insurance policy.
  2. Your home or apartment must be in a state or federally declared disaster area and have sustained damages of $1,000 or more.
  3. Damage must be a result of a tornado, hurricane (with storm surge), earthquake, wildfire, gas explosion, winter storm, or dust storm.
